Still.....Waiting.

No word from the Y or the U other than applications are complete. I just talked to a girl whose husband transferred a few years ago and she said they found out about 2 weeks before school started. Awesome. I can hardly wait. Because if we don't get in then I will be scrambling to pack my house and rent it out.
But on the bright side, I would maybe be done working part-time nights. I doubt it, but it is the thought that counts.
Until then, I am trying to stay busy. No exciting vacations planned this year except for an awesome family reunion in Island Park.
Oh, and I get to watch my cute little niece all next week and I am hoping that I can get her walking just in time for her parents to come home, wink. WINK.
My 3 year old thinks she deserves a mother of the year award. I love listening to her tell Amanda things. She will say to her, have you changed the baby's diaper? Amanda will tell her, No. She then will reply: Well, you need to. Have you given her any food? No. Well, you need to. And on and on.
The other day my 5 year old had thrown some carrots over the back seat of the car and my 3 year old told her: You KNOW better than that! Which, seriously, of course she knows better than that. I was going to tell her the same thing, but my 3 year old beat me to it.
She also told the baby after attempting to get her to stop reaching for her coloring: I have told you 5 times already, now stop!
I really think she is beginning to sound like me. Scary.

Summer Time Blues

We all are having fun with the summer time blues, imagine that! We bought Seven Peaks Waterpark passes and have been a few times. The kids love it and ask if we can go every day. It keeps us out of the house and busy. If not at that pool, I am trying to find splash parks, swimming pools and whatever else I can to keep us in the cool, blue water!

Hard Work Does Pay Off

My husband has never had to study hard in his life, until this last year. He got by....he got by just fine in high school doing the bare minimum to get A's. Onward to college where he did even less to get a B+ average. He was working, but nonetheless, he just didn't care to get the good grades.
This last year, living the "single" life, in an apartment with not much to take care of, he was able to actually study. He still tells me he probably studied less than 95% of his class but he did study. And, I think he actually somewhat enjoyed what he learned.
He got his grades on Friday and he did great. We don't know his class ranking yet, but it is good enough to help us transfer. We won't know until probably July, but we are very hopeful. It is amazing to see what a little hard work and dedication can actually accomplish.

Somethings Gotta Give

Brett came home from law school a couple of weeks ago. It has been heavenly having him home. I must say, we have been busy, but it seems like more is getting done and there even may be a few more hours in the day. Or, maybe the life isn't being sucked out of me by doing it all. Kudos to those single mothers out there. It is tough.
It has been a bit of an adjustment having him home. It was kind of nice to not have to account to someone for my every action. But above all, it is amazing to have our family back together again. The kids didn't understand at first that he wasn't going back to his apartment and KK just didn't understand where he was going to live and where all his furniture was.
I am hoping to get caught back up on some of my blogging. It obviously has suffered over the last year due to my lack of motivation to get on and sit for any prolonged period of time in front of the computer, typing about mundane things like being sleep deprived, doing laundry and trying to keep the house in check. School is out, which doesn't mean I have any more time, but I am working my shifts back to back so I feel like I have more time.
We also find out final grades tomorrow. I am keeping my fingers crossed. This will give me some sort of an idea of where we will be next year. If you looked at my recent activities on my credit card, you would get the idea that I am not planning on going anywhere!
It has been a great year in a weird sort of way. To simply put it, we have learned and grown and our relationship is stronger. But, I am not looking at doing it again anytime soon. Here's to hoping.
And just to prove we have been busy.....

THE Masters

Brett had the rare opportunity to pick up for a few days from school and head to The Masters. For all of you out there who don't know what this is, it is one of thee golf tournaments for the PGA. There are four majors, and this is one of them. He was lucky enough to stay close to the course, have a VIP pass which allowed him to tour the clubhouse and to have seats on the 18th hole on Sunday. Great seats to watch Phil Mickelson win his 2nd Masters title.
It really has been a life long dream of Brett's to go to Augusta. He didn't even necessarily care to go The Masters; he just wanted to see the course. It is somewhat of a legendary course, you have to be a "member" to play it. Let's just say there aren't many members. It is very exclusive and even the history behind it is somewhat interesting. To put one of the facts bluntly, they don't allow women to golf on the course. This was a great opportunity for him to see the course and see some great players.
He stayed at a place rented out by Billy Casper, pictured above. He stayed with his dad and they soaked in Augusta for the two days as much as they could. The only unfortunate thing about the whole event is that they couldn't have a camera on the course for the actual tournament, so this is about all we have to document the event. It really should be Brett telling you all about it, but his head is currently buried very deep in some law books. Only 3 more weeks from today, yahoo!

Glasses

A couple of months ago at her well-child check-up, Princess struggled at the eye exam. I watched her fidget and cheat to pass off one eye. The medical assistant quickly brushed it off and told me she passed and was fine.
WHAT?!? Did you really just watch the same thing I did.
Over the next couple of weeks I would test her with each eye at various things in the house to see what I thought. She definitely struggled with one eye, but then, she had always wanted glasses.
I decided to make an eye appointment much to the chagrin of my husband.
It was quite an eye opening experience. As I sat there and watched her struggle to read some things and even get inches in distance from it, I really started to panic that she might actually be almost blind in one of her eyes. Yikes.
Turns out she has amblyopia of her left eye. Basically a lazy eye, or truly "lazy brain". So, she has to have glasses, with the left lens being quite a bit thicker than the other. She was so excited to get her glasses and knew exactly which ones she wanted. THE PINK BARBIE ONES! Of course.
Glasses on kids are quite an interesting thing. It is one of those things that makes them a little different than most. I tried to warn her that kids might make fun of her and some may not like them. She just didn't see how that could be an option. She loved them and thought she was pretty special as she got to carry her hot pink "purse" barbie glass case out of the store.
Then it started to happen. Her little friend told her she looked "weird" in the glasses and she didn't like them. It was new to see her in them, so rightly so. She started to question herself in them. There are definitely days when she has a harder time wearing them others, but for the most part she has been good about it. I am just hoping it helps. The doctor said we might have to do patch therapy at home if it doesn't improve.
It is amazing at the age of 5 how one can become self conscious so quickly. Kids can be mean, but I don't know that it is always done knowingly. If something is new or different it is hard to know how to react. If anything, it has helped taught me to help my children to recognize these things and to be sensitive to it. I think kids more than anything just tend to ignore those things that are new, but that doesn't always make the situation better. So many adults would recognize the fact that she had glasses and that they liked them. But I felt like had a child said that to her, she would have been floating on cloud nine. I think she just needs some acceptance from those her own age.
It is amazing how hard it is for children to reach out of their element and to say something like this. My own kids are horrible at it. I just hope that with a little time and coaching, my own kids can move past this fear and reach out to someone who might need a little pick me up. A compliment can go a long way.

I am the Golfing Queen

We headed down to sunny St. George a few weeks ago for Brett's spring break. It was a short trip, way to quick, and not all that sunny.
T-man got a new set of clubs for his birthday and has been dying to try them out. We decided to try them out first at the driving range, but the girls wanted a chance to golf as well.
Princess was so funny to watch. After one of her better shots, she turned, with hand on hip and other hand snapping to the zig zag, declared: "Oh yeah, I am the Golfing Queen". I don't even know where she comes up with these things.
T-man went and shot 9 with the boys on Monday. He loves it and hopefully will be a better golfer than his dad someday.
