I quickly went out to the car to see what had happened. After surveying the damage, I couldn't figure out what was taken. I had the girls coats sitting on the front seat of the car with a few other random items, all of which seemed to be there. It didn't make sense. I had made sure that morning to clear my car out of anything that would be worthy to steal. It doesn't surprise me that church parking lots are a target for car thieves. I decided I better run home to make sure my purse wasn't by chance in the car.
After a rather wild chase in my house for my purse, a few kicks of some pillows when I realized it wasn't there, and a hasty phone call to my husband, I concluded my purse had been in the car. I can't believe I didn't see it that morning under the coats. I know not to leave valuables in the car, especially at church since things like this happen all the time. I was mad at myself, and mad at the person who felt obliged to my purse.
I already had a sinus headache which was now compounded by the rest of the afternoon being spent on the phone trying to cancel everything in my purse. It wasn't much. Couple dollars of cash, a few gift cards, a credit card, checkbook. Nothing that someone could do much with. But the damage to me, my family and my car leaves us all feeling a little broken.
I figure the cost of me having all that taken from me is probably over $300 worth. For them, they probably walked away with $50. Is it worth it? Seriously. Find a new hobby. Save me the time.
My cute kids were quite upset by the whole thing. They couldn't understand why someone would do something like that. I tried to explain to them that all people aren't honest. Brett asked them who they thought did it and one of them replied:
"It had to be a girl because boys don't go shopping". She also declared that people shouldn't "Do that on Sunday". The other little girl just kept saying, That's not verrwy nice, over. and over.
Which, I have to agree, it wasn't.

I'm sorry, Sarah. I kept thinking all night how violated I would feel knowing some strange person was going through my purse and looking at my stuff. :( You handled it very well.
Aah! I can't believe it! I am so sorry. My brother had his first home broken into TWICE. He said it wasn't even the stuff as much as the feeling like a victim and paranoid after and suspicious of people. Yah, you just want to find out who it was and smack them in the head a bunch. SO sorry it happened!!
LAME! I'm still so mad for you!
I don't think you are old enough (maybe not born yet) to remember when mom and dad's car was broken into while in the church parking lot in Missouri. Having said that the first rule is never leave anything of value in the car. In India they would break in for lose change (less than $1), Singapore it happens to laptops and sunglasses....
There is probably an extra special punishment waiting for someone who breaks into cars in church parking lots. Sorry that happened to you.
I cannot believe that. I have always wondered if people target cars in the church parking lot. I'm so sorry. Small, ever so small silver lining, you get to go shopping for a new purse. I feel so bad for your kids, I remember having our house broken into as a kid and how scary it was. Those poor babies. I hope the shmuck gets caught trying to use a card that has been reported stolen.
